CHU-TIA LANGUAGE

Introduction

Language has always played a vital role in the creation and development of a society, community or nation. It is the medium with the help of which humans are able to communicate their thoughts and sometimes even express their feelings.

Every dialect and language has its own very History and past. And very similarly even the CHU-TIAN language has its. The Chu-Tian tongue had come a long way since the very beginning.  The Chu-Tian language is said to belong to the Tibeto-Burman language group.

However the present original language of the Chu-Tian people may have gone through a number of changes before becoming what it is today. It had been influenced by a number of different languages since its journey from Eastern China to North-East India which took place nearly a thousand years back. Thus, today the CHU-TIAN language is actually a mixture of the many different tribes it absorbed and came into contact during its past migration.

The name CHU-TIAN itself holds a vital clue to the origin of its name and similarly the language.

What does the term CHU-TIAN mean ?

The word CHU-TIAN can be divided into two sections. The word CHU and the word TIAN. Many believe that the word Chu has come from either the Shu province of China or the very CHU dynasty who are said to have migrated to the south west of China till the Tibetan plateau and also said to have mixed with the then local tribes of Tibet.

The word CHU however in the native CHU-TIAN tongue means 'Good' or 'Elite' or 'Distinct'. And the word Tian may as some believe refer to the TIAN religion itself which most probably may have been practiced by the ancient Chu people.

However in Chinese the term ' Tian ' refers to Sky or Heaven which holds similar representation to the meaning of the Tian word in the Chu-Tian dialect.

Origin

The Origin

The history and origin of the CHU-TIAN people has always been seen
to be in the mist of clouds and mystification. Although, once at the very peak of its power from the 600 BC to the 1200 AD. The History of this once prospering dynasty had been many a times tried to be destroyed or made extinct in the past due to certain reasons. The CHU-TIAN people have always been in the frontier when it comes to serving and saving their land, be it from any kind of foreign threat or
distress within the country itself. A fine example of this can be seen among the warriors who were once a part of the Ahom Sena too at the time of Ahom rule over Assam from the period of 1200 to 1800 AD Lachit Borphukan was also one among those many who served as a General in the Ahom army. His bravery and sacrifices for his mother land can be seen to have had no limits.

The other examples of bravery and dignity can be seen among this
communities daughters, who at the time of distress decided to take
up arms and fight for her kingdom and preferred death over surrender. The last queen of the CHU-TIAN empire MEGROYAMA SADHANI
was one such daughter who fought courageously and without any
hesitation to save her own countrymen and women. However, sadly
in the end had to sacrifice her life to save the dignity of her kingdom
and hers.

The CHU-TIAN kingdom in the beginning was said to have been
divided among different tribal confederations and widely distributed
around parts of Arrunachal Pradesh and Assam. However later on
during the medieval ages a greater CHU-TIAN kingdom came into
existence when Birpal, a chieftain of one of the CHU-TIAN clan
brought together all the 60 clans under one single umbrella. His
capital has been said to have been on a hill called SWARNAGIRI and
later on assumed the title of Gayapal.

Later on his son Gaurinarayan grew up to have become one of the
most powerful CHU-TIAN kings. During his reign he was able to bring the neighboring mountain tribes of Rangalgiri, Kalgiri, Nilgiri,
Chandragiri and Dhavalgiri under his rule. He conquered most of the
North Eastern region of Assam and Arrunachal Pradesh and assumed
the title “ Lord of the Hills.“

This, is how the CHU-TIAN empire cam into existence in the Assam valley. But, the origin of the name CHU-TIAN and the origin of the CHU-TIAN people is still under the very shade of uncertainty and ignorance.

One very popular speculations of the origin of the CHU-TIAN people may be tracked back to the CHU dynasty of CHINA, before the imperial age.

Who are the CHU people ?

The CHU people or the CHU dynasty has been said to be the oldest and one of the very first dynasty of China at ancient times. The CHU people have been said to have migrated a long way from the very region of Huange He river valley to the Southern plains of the Yangtze river, where they formed their own independent state and lived in the Changsha region. (This common story can be still found in the folklores of the present CHU-TIAN people in the Assam Valley). Now the reason to how the section of the CHU people decided to migrate further south into the Assam valley is still uncertain. It may have been a result of internal conflicts or neighboring tribal aggression or a threat from the other imperial dynasties. But, during their stay in Changsha and Lhasa, the Chu people is said to have underwent a significant cultural change due to intermarriages with and among the Ba and other tribes of the region of China and Tibet which may have given rise to the different dialects of the CHU-TIAN people.
